Who are the Nighthawks

The Northfield High School Nighthawks Lacrosse program exists to build young men of character, dedication, and resilience. That character and hard work translates to the way we play, carry ourselves, and treat each other as teammates.

Northfield High School Athletics

The Northfield High School Athletics program is designed to be an integral component of the educational experience. Northfield Nighthawk athletics provides meaningful learning opportunities that are an extension of the classroom International Baccalaureate curriculum. It also provides student-athletes with lifelong lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, loyalty, self-discipline, pride, responsibility, and leadership. It is the expectation that participants in Nighthawk Athletics will enjoy positive learning experiences with an emphasis on providing knowledge and skills necessary for them to develop into successful student-athletes. EVERY student at Northfield High School has the opportunity to try out for a team if s/he meets the requirements of Northfield High School, Denver Public Schools, and the Colorado High School Activities Association. GO NIGHTHAWKS!

“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.”

The little difference in life makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude; the big difference is whether it is positive of negative.

CORE VALUES

  • Family

Northfield Lacrosse aims to build a culture where you feel secure with your teammates and coaches, people that you can count on. A culture where there is no judgment, in which you feel confident in sharing whatever is on your mind. A family that provides a space to bring positive energy every day. In any family there are going to be ups and downs, we are here to push each other in practice and in the classroom, support one another to be a better version of ourselves.

  • Respect

Respect is easily thrown around these days and has a subjective meaning to each of us. But, have you really defined respect for yourself? On this team, it means accepting someone for who they are; even if they are different from you or you don't agree with. Showing respect to this game, your brothers, coaches, opponents, referees, etc. It means being the bigger person in any situation. Respect doesn’t need to be earned before being given… We always show it first.

  • Grit

Grit is the passion and perseverance to obtain our goals. Ability to persist and have resilience when faced with adversity. Executing on the little things day in and day out. There are 5 characteristics of Grit:

Courage - ability to manage your fear of failure. Failure is another opportunity to improve. We rather see you fail trying your best, than not try at all.

Conscientious - an individual who does their best to do a great job, completes the task at hand, and has self-control.

Long-term Goals - having the commitment to follow through. “To become the best of the best, a master of your craft, it takes at least 10,000 of practice to get there.”

Resilience - ability to maintain these core values regardless of what obstacles arise. Event + Response = Outcome.

Excellence - Simply put, “Doing the best I can possibly do, to be the best I can possibly be.” Excellence is an attitude, not an end-game. DO NOT get sucked into perfectionism, that is someone else’s perception.
